Description
The eighteen begin with the five that break the vows, pranatipat, mrushavad, adattadan, maithun and parigrah, continue through the four kashays of krodh, maan, maya and lobh, and end with mithyatva-shalya, the wrong belief that underlies the rest. Every pratikraman recites them, and every child hears the list long before knowing what the words mean. A card for each one gives the word a face.
Good for: children of pathshala age learning the list for pratikraman, and adults who know the words but not the order.
How families use it: lay the cards out in the order of the sutra and let the child name each one, or pick a single card at bedtime and talk about where that paap showed up during the day. It is the simplest way to prepare a child for Samvatsari pratikraman. Related sets are under Jain Sutra.
