Jain Food

Jain food rules make sense to a child only when someone explains the why, and these books and flashcards do that at a child’s level: the 22 abhakshya, the foods a Jain avoids and the reason behind each; kandmul, the root vegetables that hold countless lives; dwidal, the pairing of raw dairy with pulses; and picture flashcards of the fruits and vegetables that are eaten.

Pathshalas teach a unit from them every year, parents pull them out when a child asks why there is no potato at home, and the flashcards are a standard piece of a Jain newborn gift set.
