14 Swapna

The 14 swapna, or 14 auspicious dreams, are the dreams a Tirthankar’s mother sees at conception, read out every year on the day of Mahavir Janma Vanchan. Everything here helps a child know them in order and by sight: a matching game with the dream symbols, colouring rolls and colouring books, a picture book that tells the dreams and their meaning, and framed canvases of all 14 for the puja room or the child’s wall.

Families bring these out before the Janma Vanchan so the reading in the derasar is about pictures the child already knows, and a framed set is a common gift at a Jain baby shower, a housewarming or a first birthday.
