Painting (Chitrakala) holds a prestigious place in Jainism (Jinshasan), originating with Lord Rishabhanath, who included the art (known as Chitropal) in the 72 traditional arts for men. This tradition continued, notably in the 12th century with the creation of illustrated manuscripts like the Suvarnakshariya Kalpasutra, using native pigments to depict the lives of the Divine. These historical treasures are preserved in ancient knowledge repositories.

This new book, Ratnakar Chitra Sanchay (Ratnakar Picture Collection), is a small effort to promote this artistic tradition. It includes 80 Jainism-related pictures, aimed at integrating this art into Jain educational programs (Pathshalas, Shibirs, Sanskarvatikas). The goal is to allow every Jain child to connect with the Divine’s teachings (Dharmakala) through painting.
