Description

A Sequel is a connected series of five identical
colored marker chips in a straight line, horizontally, vertically or diagonally on the playing board.
You can play Jain Sequel with 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 and 9 people.
If more than 3 people are playing, you’ll need to divide into either 2 or 3 equal teams.
For eg. If 4 people are playing, break up into 2 teams of 2. If 9 people are playing, break up into 3 teams of 3.

Number of Cards Dealt to Each Player :

  • 2 Players / 7 Cards Each
  • 3 Players / 6 Cards Each
  • 4 Players / 6 Cards Each
  • 6 Players / 5 Cards Each
  • 8 Players / 4 Cards Each
  • 9 Players / 4 Cards Each

Setup

  1. Shuffle the deck and distribute the cards to each player. Place the remaining cards face down to create the draw pile.
  2. Each player chooses a colored chip. If there are 2-3 teams, each team chooses a color and equally distributes the chips to the team members.
  3. This game can be played in 2 ways – beginner and expert. If you are playing the expert version distribute a small white chip to each player equally.
  4. Team members should sit in alternate positions.

How to play

  1. First player selects a card from his hand & places it face up on the discarded pile.
  2. Place one marker chip on the game board of the matching card.
  3. Once you have placed a marker chip on the board you must draw a card. If you fail to take a card before the next player takes their card, you are not allowed to draw a new card, putting you at a disadvantage.

Playing Samyak Darshan card

There are 4 Samyak Darshan cards in the deck. They are Wildcards. A player can discard this card from his hand and place his marker chip on any open space on the game board.

Playing Mithyā Darshan card

There are 4 Mithyā Darshan cards in the deck. A player can discard this card and he can remove any one marker chip belonging to his opponent from the game board. You cannot place your marker chips on that same space during this turn and you cannot remove a marker chip that is already a part of a sequence.

Trade in a Dead Card

If a card in your hand does not have an open space (both spaces on the game board are occupied by a marker chip), you can trade it in for a new card. On your turn, announce the Dead Card and place it on the discard pile, and draw a new card (one card per turn). Proceed to normal play for your turn.

Talking at the table

When playing in teams, no table talk or coaching of team members is allowed. If this happens, all team members must forfeit one card of their choice from their hand and place it in the discard pile.

No more cards left in Draw pile

When there are no more cards in the draw deck, shuffle together all discard pile and use it as a new draw pile.

Free Spaces

There is a ‘Free Space’ in the four corners of the game board. Any player may use them as though their color chip is in the corner. When using a corner, only four of your chips are needed to complete a Sequence. More than one player may use the same corner as part of a Sequence.

Winning in Jain Sequel

A Sequence is a connected series of five identical colored marker chips in a straight line, horizontally, vertically or diagonally on the playing board. The first team or player to score the required number of Sequences wins the game.
Be first to make two sequences before your opponents.

Expert level

  1. Each player has two types of chips one is a chip of the team (red/blue/green) and the other is a small white chip.
  2. Each player/team has to make 1 sequence in a row (same as the beginner) and the other 1 sequence of any one of 8 Poojā / 8 Karma / 8 Prātihāriya / 6 Leshyā / 5 Gyān / 5 Māhāvrat / 4 Mahā Vighai / 4 Kashāy.
  3. For eg. the Player/team is making 8 puja sequences. All 8 cards will be placed at a different position on the game board.
  4. Teammates need to be attentive, understand what their members are trying to make (a beginner seq. or an expert seq.) and help each other.
  5. As soon as a player/team places his marker chip on all 8 puja cards; their expert level sequence completes. And now no one can remove it with Mithyā Darshan card.

Intersecting chips

Only one chip can be common between 2 sequences of the same player/team. More than one is not allowed.

Winning

The player/team completing one 5-chip sequence (beginner level) and one expert level (ref. Point 2) sequence first wins the game.
